Do you need to find a gift for that DIY (do it yourself) person in your life who always seems to want to add to their tool collection? Are you wracking your brain trying to figure out the best gift for them? Our 2022 Holiday Gift Guide was put together just for you, to help guide you through the process.
Most DIYers either want to replace an obsolete tool or want one they don't have yet. Our list below takes you through the best selections for this year. Just click on each link to see the items in more detail. Read on to discover what's on our Top Ten list for 2022.
1. Wet/Dry Shop Vac
An indispensable tool for the garage or workshop is the wet/dry vacuum. A ‘shop vac' picks up project messes and tackles minor flooding. A complete assortment is found in our Wet/Dry Vacuum Category located within Power Tools.
We really like this DeWalt 20V cordless Wet & Dry HEPA vacuum. An integrated 5-foot-long hose and several attachments are included. The vacuum can pick up 2 gallons of wet or dry debris, and the washable and reusable HEPA wet-dry filter traps particles with 99.97% efficiency down to 0.3 microns.
2. Cordless Drill Driver
Another "can't live without it" tool is the cordless drill/driver. We have several hundred choices in our dedicated Drill/Driver category, also located within Power Tools. These are a game-changer: gobs of torque, easy-to-change bits, and battery power to take the tool to the job.
This year's choice in this category is the Milwaukee M18 Cordless 18 V Drill/Driver Kit. Featuring an 18V battery and ½" chuck, it's the most compact drill driver in its class, and delivers 500 in-lb. of torque up to 1,800 RPM. An all-metal gear case provides maximum durability, yet at only 7-1/4" in length, this drill driver allows you access to the tightest working spaces. The kit includes the drill, battery, battery charger, and storage case.
3. Work Gloves
Our Work Wear & Safety Equipment Category can supply you with everything you need for job safety. Within there, the Work Gloves & Hand Protection sub-category carries gloves for every kind of work. Think of gloves as consumables: they eventually wear out, so a new pair make a great gift.
A brand name you'll recognize, Permatex, now offers mechanics gloves, and these Superior Hand Protection gloves can be ordered in Large or X-Large. A somewhat unique feature of these gloves is that they are washable, so your giftee should get extra-long life out of them.
4. Respirator Mask
Those who work with toxic materials need to protect their lungs, and our Masks & Respirators category has some of the best protective equipment for your health.
Whether it's paint, solvents, glass fibers, or asbestos, this Medium Half Facepiece Respirator from our friends at 3M provides the necessary protection against certain airborne contaminants. This respirator is NIOSH approved for respiratory protection against certain organic vapors and particulates up to ten times the permissible exposure limit (PEL). This respirator may be used in a variety of workplace applications, including spray painting, pesticides, agriculture, construction, and transportation. The disposable respirator assembly offers additional convenience.
5. Shop Lighting
Our Job Site Lighting category, within the larger category of Work Lights, has everything the DIY guy or gal needs to provide bright light to work safely in otherwise dim areas.
This 1000W Halogen Tripod Work Light from Bayco is affordable, portable, and infinitely useful. This feature-laden product includes dual light fixtures which can be aimed in two different directions; a tripod stand which extends up to 6 feet; a 500 watt halogen bulb in each fixture, for a total illumination of 1,000 watts; a separate sealed switch in each fixture; tempered glass lenses and metal safety grills; a spare 500 watt bulb; and a 1 Year Limited Warranty.
6. Shop Stool
Garages aren't just for tools and cars; our dedicated Garage Furniture category within the Garage products category caters to those who want to add some comfort and style.
Hard-working DIYers deserve some time off their feet, and the Sunex Hydraulic Shop Stool meets that need and then some. Unlike so many other shop stools without a backrest, this one has an adjustable vinyl padded backrest for ultimate comfort and support. The backrest height can be set between 1.5" to 12". The slip-resistant feet allow for leveling on uneven surface, and the frame is finished in highly-polished chrome.
7. Tool Box
Today's toolboxes come in all shapes, sizes, and materials. Our Portable Toolboxes & Totes subcategory within our Garage category focuses on smaller and lighter units which can be carried.
It's a little unusual to find portable units made of steel, but that is exactly why we like this steel toolbox from Torin. Most competitors' units are made of plastic, which works up to a point. If you are carrying heavier tools or are the type to subject a toolbox to more abuse, then consider this Torin model, which is also available in two sizes: there is a 16" x 6" x 4", and a 19" x 6" x 7, both very reasonably priced.
8. Heat Gun
If the DIY person on your gift list needs to dry timber, shrink PVC wrapping, thaw pipes, bend plastic, remove paint, or solder plumbing joints, then they need a heat gun. Our Heat Gun category under Power Tools has an assortment of corded and cordless products.
We like this Performance Tool Dual Temperature Heat Gun, priced very reasonably compared to some of its better-known competition. Its temperature range is between 1000° and 1100°F at 13.5A, and it pushes out air at a rate of 6 CFM. The heat gun features a heavy-duty die-cast housing with an aluminum 1" diameter nozzle. A detachable, three-position non-slip steel base is included for hands-free operation.
9. Air Compressor
Compressed air does so much, from filling tires to running air tools and more. Portable Air Compressors have their own category within our larger Air Compressor section, and a portable one makes a great gift.
It's hard to beat this Milwaukee 2 gallon portable compressor. This cordless unit, running on the same M18 batteries that other Milwaukee cordless tools use, is the quietest cordless compressor on the market and quieter than most corded options. Its low profile and stackable design allow it to be easily stored and transported on, around, and back off the jobsite. It weighs only 31 lb., put out a max of 135 PSI, and puts out 1.2 SCFM of air at 90 PSI. Its oil-free pump minimizes maintenance concerns.
10. Tape Measure
Accurate measurements are critical in DIY work, whether it's inches in cabinetry or yards in landscaping. Our Measuring & Layout Tools category has you covered no matter what you're measuring.
The good old-fashioned tape measure has developed into a tool with more features than ever before. Our current favorite is this 25' model from Stanley. Its overall length works for almost any job, its automatic blade lock holds the blade securely, its Write-On label allows repeated use of a carpenter's pencil, its non-marring base protects work surfaces, and its 1" wide blade has graduations marked in 1/16" increments.
