If you have ever worked with bolts and screws, you probably know what a nuisance it is to deal with stripped or broken fasteners. When a bolt or a screw breaks the material it is threaded into, removing it without proper tools will take much time and effort. Fortunately our web store offers an entire collection of bolt and screw extractors to efficiently remove damaged fasteners. Just a couple of quick moves and you’ll have the screws out in no time!
Screw extractors feature a tapered reversed thread. Running in a reverse direction, the screw extractor grabs a damaged or seized fastener and helps you quickly twist it out of its attachment point. Screw extractors should be chosen in accordance with the size of a broken screw and are available in 3/32", 5/32", 1/2", 1/4", 3/8" and 5/8" inch variants. Made from hard shock-resistant steel, extractors are designed to handle much pressure without breaking or bending. Apart from an extractor itself, removing a damaged fastener requires other tools, including a center punch, a drill with different drill bits and a hammer.
The basic steps for twisting out seized fasteners are the following: first of all a damaged screw should be center punched in order to prepare it for drilling. Then the extractor is hammered into a hole that was drilled in a damaged fastener. Afterwards, either using a tap-wrench or an appropriate nut paired with a standard wrench, the extractor is turned counter-clockwise, until it twists out along with a damaged screw. There are two basic types of bolt and screw extractors: spiral fluted and straight fluted extractors. The latter are ideal for removing softer materials, while spiral fluted extractors work best for harder materials.
Get a bolt extractor to cope with rusted, rounded-off, or painted-over bolts. Bolt extractors feature a lobular design that can easily fit various types of fasteners, both exposed and recessed. The reversed spiral flutes will bite down the surface and provide maximum grip of the bolt you are trying to remove. Bolt extractors are equally effective when used with power and hand-driven tools, starting from impact wrenches and air ratchets to standard pliers and sockets. Whether you need a single extractor or a professional set, we offer fastener extractors that will help you cope with the most stubborn bolts, screws, rivets, and lug nuts.
