When it comes to providing tightness in tubes or hoses working under pressure, metal clamps are virtually indispensable. However, in order to ensure adequate efficiency, these tools have to be properly selected. Aside from different sizes, they are available in various types including worm gear, pinch, T-bolt, spring, and some other models. Worm gear clamps are arguably the most widely used type, although it features certain disadvantages; for instance, such clamps can't provide equal force around a tube. It's not a problem in many applications, but worm clamps are typically not used in automotive fuel lines or hydraulic systems because of the risk of leaks.
In such systems, spring or wire clamps are more preferable. The former are made of spring steel and form a wide ring featuring a proper shape. As their clamping force is limited by the properties of steel, they are mainly used with relatively thin tubes. To install or remove them, you will need pliers. As for wire clamps, they use a thick wire tightened with a bolt that allows you to increase or reduce clamping force. In our online store, you will find a great variety of hose & tubing clamps available in SAE and metric sizes.
