An impact socket is a functional tool used for tightening and loosening a variety of fasteners. Designed to withstand much torque, impact sockets can be applied in conjunction with hand ratchets or impact tools. In cases where standard sockets would have shattered and caused injury with the fragments flying all around, impact sockets can cope with stubborn rusted fasteners with ease and ensure improved user safety. The impact socket is a cylinder that features an opening that can fit over the commonly used male fasteners. Depending on the type of the opening, there are female, square, hex, and universal sockets. Most impact sockets feature 6, 8 or 12 point recessed openings to be able to house a variety of fastener heads. Impact and standard sockets differ in material and finish. Most standard sockets are constructed from strong steel that is nevertheless prone to shattering when it breaks.
