Among all the screw drive standards existing in modern industry, the hex type remains one of the most popular ones. Relatively simple and robust enough, it can't be mistaken for something else, like in the case of Phillips and Posidriv. However, you need to be careful when choosing a suitable tool for hex socket bolts. Everything depends on their tightening torque, location, and possible obstacles preventing you from getting to these bolts. For instance, a regular hex tools bit may be unsuitable because of too high torque you will have to apply.
In such cases, T-handle or L-shaped hex keys can be a better solution. The latter are usually more compact, and sometimes, such a key is the only possible way to unscrew a bolt located in a hard-to-reach place. Depending on the situation, you can insert a short or long side of the key. To simplify the job, many tool manufacturers make the long end of a ball type, which allows you to insert the key at a certain angle.
