Power ratchets are mostly utilized in wrenches that use artificial sources of power (compressed air or electricity) and do not necessarily need the application of human force. A pneumatic or air ratchet wrench works similarly to a hand-powered ratchet wrench. It features the same type of square socket drive that is turned by an air motor. Such a ratchet is provided with a switch that can be activated to reverse the direction of the socket drive rotation. A pneumatic power ratchet wrench is perfect when a high-speed rotation is needed. In cases when higher levels of torque are required, an impact ratchet wrench is utilized.
To power a pneumatic or impact ratchet wrench, you need to have an air compressor in your shop or garage. An electric ratchet wrench offers a more portable and affordable solution. A battery-powered ratchet wrench allows you to work anytime anywhere. It features a recessed backward and forward switch placed to the back of the head so that you don’t actuate it accidentally in some crucial moment of the job. The harder you press on the trigger, the faster the drive spins. Some models are equipped with LED lights for working in poorly lit areas. Also, when the battery is dead, you can lock the tool and use it as a hand ratchet wrench.
